PSC CC Team News 26.7.10

Hi guys
1. TRAINING AT ROTO KOHATU TONIGHT:
Wow, what a great training session tonight with 73 of the team there and many others as well - well over 100 in total. Well done to the Year 5 Girls and the Year 7 Girls who had 100% attendance! It was a tough session and you should be tired! Especially those who competed in the Canterbury Cross Country Championships on Saturday. Don't worry if you couldn't keep up with all your team mates, it is about YOU and how you are training and how much effort YOU put in. I know the Year 5 boys all put in a big effort, as I was making sure they were all training their best (from behind most of the time!). Training at this time should be tiring and tough, and you will grow in strength and endurance for that later part of your race later in the term.

Well done to our AWESOME EFFORT AWARD WINNERS:
Year 5 Boys: LOGAN ANDERSON
Year 5 Girls: LOUISE DALY
Year 6 Boys: BEN MARSHALL-LEE
Year 6 Girls: HARRIET BUSH
Year 7 Boys: TOM MOULAI
Year 7 Girls: DOMINIQUE HEATH
Year 8 Boys: "JOEY" DWYER
Year 8 Girls: MAIRI LAW

A special thanks to all parents who helped out and the CHRISTCHURCH AVON older Juniors who led the groups including World Schools' Cross Country Champion, Margot Gibson.

2. CANTERBURY CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS:
An excellent effort from all of our athletes who ran (skidded and swam!) at Halswell on Saturday...Canterbury titles going to
B10: Byron Heath
G10: Lorna Pairman
B11: Harrison Brown
G11: Ari Graham (beat the G12, 13 and 14 girls too!)
B12: Fergus Eglesfield
G12: Jesse Anderson
The G13, B13, G14, B14, M16 and W16 winners were all past PSC CC Team members too! Well done to Jessica, Sean, Annie, Daniel, Zac and Lydia.

PHIL COSTLEY won his 103rd representative (Provincial and National) title when he easily won the Senior Race. We race for the PHIL COSTLEY Shield at Hanmer. Phil has confirmed he will be coming to the IRXC2010 at Hanmer and is even keen to come to the Canterbury Awards Dinner. (if he can get a ticket!......I actually put him on the list way before we were booked out thankfully!)

3. OTAGO INTEREST:
The Otago Primary Schools Sports Association sounds keen on the IRXC2010...hopefully they will send some runners and even some teams. They have their school champs on September 10th so will be in top form for 23 September.....

4. UNIFORMS:
If you need to change your singlet, I will bring them along next Tuesday to Woodend. All jacket and shorts orders have been sent through and hopefully the polo shirts will be ready soon...will let you know....

5. NEXT TEAM TRAINING RUN - Tuesday 3 August at Woodend Beach Domain:
Travel on the Northern Motorway and the Main North Road and turn right into Woodend Beach Rd (after Sandhills Road on your right) just before the Woodend Tavern, do not go into Woodend township. Travel right to the end of this road, past the Woodend Christian Camp on your left, to the road end. There is a car park at the Domain. We will do some hill work (hill springing) on the sand dunes and the beach as well as a run in the forest. Playgrounds available for the little ones and bring your thermos if you need coffee

Keep that training up this week and all the best to those running in the PTH U16 Road Relay on Saturday.
Cheers
Paul:)

PSC CC Team News 17.7.10

Hi guys
Great to see some you running today at the UNI (and Sophie, Y8 girls, winning the 4km! - see photo, Sophie was the Year 6 Girls' IRXC08 Champion in Wellington) and about 50 or so at Hanmer last Tuesday, including some teams with only one runner missing! I went back the next day and measured the course at 1135m, so the year 5/6 races will be 2270m and the year 7/8 races 3405m...and for those who didn't go, we now have a 2nd water crossing at the start of the lap (although it may dry up by September)...

Lots of news, so read on....

3. TRAINING

Hopefully you are all following the schedule and filling out your log. The first few weeks is a concentration on Aerobic Conditioning with longer runs, time trials, effort running and fartlek work. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT component of your 10 weeks and pays off in the vital last 1/3 of your race - so don't take short cuts now! Please stay ON GRASS whenever possible.
Here are a couple of sessions that are open to you on Mondays:

5. IRXC2010 WEB SITE
Athletics NZ has a web page dedicated to the event with results from the last five years, course map and information, see: IRXC2010 WEB SITE

Other info. will appear on our blog too: pscccteam.blogspot.com

6. PSC CANTERBURY SINGLETS
As mentioned above, these will be given out on Tuesday. You will have the singlet to lend for the next 9 weeks. Please always wear it with pride! PLEASE DO NOT WEAR YOUR SINGLET in inter-club races if you belong to a club, especially not in the Canterbury and NZ Cross Country or Road Championships. You may wear them at training sessions (or you Polo, when they arrive), club runs (if your club lets you), some lower key races (eg Port Hills CC, Marylands Relay etc.) and PSC races (eg Omaka). If unsure, please email me and ask your club captain if in a club. Singlets will be collected in AFTER your race on September 23 before you go to the Hot Pools.

7. PHYSIO
We are very fortunate to have a physio as one of our team managers. Jo Batchelor, works at the SportsMed on Bealey Ave and especially works with young people. She is keen to help out any of the team if you need a physio. SportsMed will also give us a loyalty programme - details to come (hopefully we don't need to use it too much!!!). To contact Jo try:
jbatchelor@sportsmed-nz.co.nz Ph. 366 0620.

8. SHOE CLINIC
Please, please support the Shoe Clinic at both High Street and Westfield Riccarton. They support us big time and I picked up a big box of prizes, gear bags and race pack bags form them the other day. They also subsidise our POLO SHIRTS by about 50% (by the way, they are printing them now, so shouldn't be too long till we get them!). You may be able to get shoes and gear cheaper but they give great service, 30 day shoe guarantee and they are our sponsors. Try Kevin (Riccarton) and Shaun (High Street) first. See message below.....

9. CONTACT LIST
If you DO NOT WANT your information shared with other team members, please email me before Monday. Due to our training sessions being all over Canterbury, it can be very handy to car pool to locations.

10. SPIKES
If you have some running spikes you would like to sell, please bring them along on Tuesday to the meeting. Spike are not essential but can be a real advantage in wet conditions.

See you all on Tuesday. IF YOU CANNOT MAKE IT PLEASE EMAIL ME, especially if you have Shorts/Jackets orders as these will be given to the suppliers on Wednesday and there will be no late orders.
Cheers
Paul:)
